A Deadly Deception? A Reply from the Grand Master
Freemasonry steps and various organizationsWhile researching for my paper, I emailed the Grand Master of Arizona for some information and insight. He replied to me, although it was too late to include in my paper. Click here to see Grand Master Michael T. Bishop's insightful contribution.

Rocky Mountain Oysters
October 4, 2009
I ate some Rocky Mountain oysters yesterday.

Hogs N HeatIf you find yourself in Black Canyon City (30 miles north of Phoenix), make your way to the Rock Springs Cafe. This cafe has good food all the time, but on the first Satuday of the month they have a BBQ they call "Hogs 'N' Heat." For $12 one is submersed in a fun and friendly outdoor cookout, complete with a country western band, dozens of people in Stetsons, and alcohol in festive red cups. The area behind the cafe is specifically for this monthly event, and the buildings, mistmatched furniture, dancefloor, band shell and even restrooms give a homey feeling.

The food is something else. The shredded beef sandwiches drowned in a savory BBQ sauce, the juicy chicken, and even the Rocky Mountain oysters are served all you can eat. If you were wondering, Rocky Mountain oysters look just like popcorn chicken. They are served with beans and/or cole slaw.

It is the perfect Arizona experience, especially when the weather is nice. Get out to Black Canyon City's Rock Springs Cafe!

Cronkite and His School

Personal Blog

By Anne Stegen

The documentary-in-the-making, Cronkite: Legend & Legacy gave me Goosebumps. It is humbling to be able to attend a school so honored as to have the name of the most recognized anchor in history. I personally aspire to be so respected, so talented, so involved, so versatile and half as humble as Uncle Walter was.

Cronkite: Legend and Legacy            The film itself was well made with interviews of faculty, professors, alumni, and the board of the Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

It showed the evolution of the school. The beginning was simple; they asked to attach Cronkite’s name to the school to give it distinction, honor and a very high standard in excellence. It fit in with President Michael Crow’s plan for defining Arizona State as “the new American university.”

Walter Cronkite took on the role of direct involvement with the school and what he always referred to as “my students.” The Cronkite Luncheon was designed to help this involvement and to honor professionals in the field with the Cronkite Award.

Plans began to give the Cronkite School a new home downtown, amidst the greatest media outlets in the state.

The most intense story for me was when Cronkite was able to visit the site of construction downtown. The workers on the top of the building paused, looking downward. Dean Callahan and Cronkite, in his hard hat, looked up at the six stories in wonder. One worker cried out, in a big booming voice, “Walter! We’re building this for you!”
It made me sad that Cronkite was never able to come inside his school. The halls have a certain emptiness now for me, knowing that Cronkite was never physically within them. But I know that his spirit is within them, and I hope other aspiring journalists such as myself always remember Uncle Walter’s spirit.

Anneveloptix

It has recently come to my attention that I simply dismissed everyone who knows and loves me by not registering my web site as "Anneveloptix.com". I found that Lisa was quite right, so here I am begging for forgiveness.
While the inception of my beloved nickname is somewhat cloudy and lost to memory, I do recall it had to do with Mandi mistaking a phrase in a conversation. "Anneveloptix" was born--or hatched. My new persona is that of a velociraptor, with red hair, of course. Once I can find and scan an illustration, it will be available to you.
